"Dr. John Shin graduated from the Loma Linda University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency and hematology/oncology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He then went on to complete a fellowship in cancer immunotherapy at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD.  Dr. Shin’s research focus is on immunotherapy clinical trial development and the effects of lifestyle interventions in cancer therapy."

My name is Celeste Martinez. I am a proud graduate of Robstown High School, class of 2013. I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin in Youth and Community Studies, with a specialization in Youth and Social services in 2017. I then went on to receive my master's degree in Cultural Studies in Education in 2019.
The arts have always been important to my life. I have been an art instructor at the boys and girls club, and a museum educator at the Blanton. 
I am currently a special education teacher in San Antonio, Texas. Art and education are my life!

Why Our History Matters​ with guest speaker Jonathan Cortez

Jonathan Cortez is a historian, public humanities practitioner, and teacher. They grew up in Robstown, Texas where the landscape, history, and people continue to inspire their research, and where they graduated from Robstown High School in 2011. In 2015, Jonathan graduated with degrees in Sociology and Mexican American Studies from The University of Texas at Austin. Most recently, they have worked with the Robstown Area Historical Museum in 2017 and the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in 2019-2020 helping with archival collections, writing exhibit scripts, and working as a curatorial assistant. In May 2021, Jonathan received his Ph.D. from the Department of American Studies at Brown University and will be entering a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of Latin American, Latina/o, and Caribbean Studies at Dartmouth College.

​The Addicted and the Affected: How Drugs Impact Our Community with Dr. Mitchell J. Moore, PhD, LADC-S

Dr. ​Mitch Moore, PhD, LADC-S, is an assistant professor atWinona State University in the Graduate School’s Counselor Education Program where he coordinates the Addiction Counseling Certificate Program. He is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor in the state of Minnesota, and he has worked in the chemical dependency field since 1988. Mitch has a doctorate degree in Adult Education from the University of Minnesota, and a MS in Counselor Education, and BS degrees in Psychology and Political Science , from Winona State University. He retired in 2012 from the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a drug treatment specialist where he developed and facilitated drug abuse programs for adult female and male offenders. Prior to his retirement and subsequent faculty position at WSU, Mitch served two stints—August 1999 to December 2000, and January 2012 to January 2013—as a chemical dependency counselor for Catholic clergy at Guest House in Rochester, MN.​

​Is the Vaccine the Answer to the Pandemic?: Loss, Hope, and Uncertainty with Dr. Jose Medina-Inojosa, MD MSc, and Dr. Laura Suarez MD, Mayo Clinic, Rochester

​Dr. Laura Suarez is an assistant professor of Psychiatry and currently part of the Clinician Investigator Training Program at Mayo Clinic where she is conducting a qualitative research study to characterize psychological distress in patients with heart failure. She earned her medical degree at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia, where she is a licensed general practitioner. She completed a research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital Cardiac Psychiatry Research Program and subsequently, completed psychiatry residency and a Consultation-Liaison Fellowship at Mayo Clinic. Her clinical interests include the overlap between medical illnesses and psychiatric conditions, in particular, cardiovascular and transplant Psychiatry; and her line of research has centered on behavioral cardiology. Dr. Suarez has also worked closely with Spanish-speaking populations and is very interested in trainee and faculty education on the topic of Cultural Humility and Competence in Psychiatric practice.

Dr. Medina-Inojosa is an assitant professor of Medicine, he is from Venezuela, where he underwent medical training at the University of Carabobo; he came to Mayo in 2014, where he completed a postdoctoral fellowship and Master's Degree in Clinical translation science with a focus on population health. He currently serves as a physician-scientist at the Division of Preventive Cardiology, Center for Regenerative Medicine at the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. His research expertise includes big data analysis, clinical linkage of disease outcomes, cardiovascular risk prediction, and assessment at the population level, via traditional and novel data science methods. Jose has a strong interest in understanding and reducing Latino health disparities. His views do not represent that of his employer.

​Trauma and Recovery with Dr. Kavita Prasad BSc (Hons) MD FACP​) and Dr. Enid Campos, MD.

​Dr. Kavita Prasad qualified from the University of London and trained at the National Institutes of Health and Mayo Clinic in General Internal Medicine and Complementary and Integrative Medicine.Since 2008, she incorporates a holistic approach to healthcare, recognizing that good health is created by focusing on physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. She incorporates evidence-based Complementary and Integrative Medicine practices and meditation into patient care, education and research.
She is currently the Medical Director of Primary Care Services for Zumbro Valley Health Center, a non for profit organization serving the underserved and homeless in the USA.
Dr Prasad is passionate in providing equality in access to healthcare focusing on wellbeing. She is also a Trustee for Full Circle Fund Therapies in the UK.

Dr. Enid Campos, MD. born in Liberia, Costa Rica, lives in the United States since 2005. In 1993 she obtained her medical degree at the University of Costa Rica. She completed her residency training in Psychiatry at the National Psychiatric Hospital in San Jose, Costa Rica, graduating with honors. In 2008 she came to Rochester, Minnesota and since 2010 volunteers at The Center Clinic in Dodge Center, MN, a non- profit organization serving the Hispanic community, where she participates educating about mental health. She has participated in research on bipolar disorder in adolescents and resilience in children of depressed parents. In 2019 she was a member of the Mayo Clinic brigade to Costa Rica, where she led a workshop on depression, bipolar disorder, and suicide prevention in her home country. She is currently completing her certification from Rochester Community and Technical College as a Community Health Worker and is expected to graduate in the Spring of this year.
