Our Story

Picture
Bobby Marines: From an eighth grade dropout, in Texas, to a working artist, in Minnesota, Bobby “graduated” from dumpster diving for cardboard canvases to full-time interdisciplinary practice. Through mentorships under Minnesota-based artists like Jason Pearson and Simon Huelsbeck, his work evolved from grassroots abandon to cohesive narratives and deliberate process.

Bobby's work explores the systemic affects of socioeconomics, race, and the criminal justice system on Latinx cultural identity.

He is a 2015 Advancing Artist grant recipient through the Southeast Minnesota Arts Council and a 2020 Artist-in-Residence at RALC, through the Minnesota State Arts Board. His latest body of work includes Cascarones (SooVac, Mpls), Cuartito in the Burbs (MadeHereMN, Mpls), and was featured in Making it OK: Art, Bravery, and Mental Health(Rochester Art Center). He recently sat as President of C4, a non-profit arts organization in Rochester.

Miguel Valdez: My work focuses on assisting community members and researchers in the planning and execution of community-engaged research and research-related events by building sustainable relationships between community members and Mayo Clinic researchers. I also seek to understand how research may assist in addressing health care issues within the community
In my roll I had the opportunity to develop with my team online educational modules to address the understanding the value of community engagement in an early stage in the research process, as well to keep up with today technology and social media to reach those who usually don’t get a voice. over the past 19 years I have make the effort to be involved in my community and this had made my job easy and enjoyable, also I’d been fortunate to be recognize by my peers and community by receiving the Medal of Honor of Community-Wide Services from the Office of the Mayor of Rochester, MN in December 2016.
